Ernie Johnson smacked Shaq with a chair, in the latest "Who he play for."

If you don't have NBA TV, you have been missing the greatest basketball tv show and their hilarious annual "Who he play for" segment. Where EJ asks Charles, who is a NBA Analyst about off season moves and as usual Charles will fail miserably. This edition revealed that Shaq cheated in the last show by threatening EJ for the answers, but this time around, Ernie had a little something in stored for the Diesel.

Hopefully this will cheer you up on this slow news day.

Gregg Poppovich kills another reporter.

Classic Gregg Popovich moment, completely ignoring the question and making a complete ass out of David Aldridge on national television. David should consider himself lucky, because he did manage to get more than 5 words out of Coach Pop and that doesn't happen often. So much for the promise Pop made with his wife to be nicer to the reporters, guess he will get his end of complains at home.

The Feed: Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs [11/01/12]

Recap:

The San Antonio Spurs escapes the wild Western Conference Finals rematch with a 86 to 84 victory over the beardless Oklahoma City Thunder. OKC just didn't look like themselves tonight. They struggled with their shots, scoring only 38 percent of their total field goal attempts. Much of the blame comes from Russell Westbrook who basically shot the his team out of the game, finishing with 18 points from 21 shots, cashing in only 6.

Kevin Durant led all scorers with 23 points and 14 rebounds, on a night where he checks off another career achievement, becoming the second youngest (after Lebron) to score over 10,000 points. Unfortunately, the Spurs decided to spoil his big day and with their defense, forcing 18 Thunder turnovers, one of which resulted in a Tony Parker buzzer beating game winner.

Tim Duncan abused the slow-footed Perkins in the post, putting up 20 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks with his museum quality preserved body. On the bench, Stephen Jackson chipped in 11 points and 6 boards, where as the newest member of the Thunder, Kevin Martin dropped 15 points and 5 assists.

Despite the terrible shooting night, Oklahoma City managed to hang in, in the fourth with free throw shooting and three pointers. The Spurs started early with a 11-0 run that OKC never managed to recover until Westbrook hit a few free throws to bring the Thunder up 3 points with 38 seconds remaining. Which was wiped off with a desperation 3 pointer from Tony Parker, leaving 28 seconds on the clock. Normally, Kevin Durant would be ready to put an end to the game, but two lazy screens and a bad pass from Russ, turned into game winning dagger from the French point guard.

Here is the play below, great awareness from Kawhi Leonard.

Tim Duncan might have perfected the Kevin Garnett moving screen on that play.

Offensive Set:

The Spurs rely on two main ways to score, if they can not run the basketball, the guards will usually look into the paint for the big man battling for position. This often involves Tim Duncan, who will either go to work or look for the open man (freed by a double on the post or a off ball screen). Their main offensive strategy is to run the ball. The point guard will draw attention from help defenders by attacking the basket, allowing an easy kick out to one of Spurs many three point shooters who are always ready to shoot. Quick fact: The Spurs outscored the Thunder in the paint 44 to 24, I wasn't kidding when I said they are a jump shooting team.

The Thunder relies heavily on Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant for the scoring load, and typically they will try to get a fast one in transition, which didn't happen much this game, with the Spurs annihilating OKC in fastbreak points, 18 to 6. Because Russell Westbrook is Russell Westbrook, he will usually look for his own first, using a high screen to free himself from the defender for his trademarked 16 foot jumper.

If that doesn't happen, the Thunder will set multiple off ball screens to cause mismatches for Kevin Durant, who will just use his length and height to abuse his defender. The supporting casts also get their shots from off ball screens, but a play is rarely ran for them. This is where they really miss James Harden, his ability to create offense and play making skills would have lifted some weight off the all star duo.

Defensive Set:

The Spurs is a solid defensive team, they don't really employ any surprises, but they rotate quite well. Against the Thunder, they only had to worry about two guys. Obviously Tony Parker cannot contain Westbrook, so San Antonio leaves the screener to prevent his jumpshot. For Kevin Durant, they can only hope for the best, Kawhi Leonard did a spectacular job early forcing the Durantula to cough up a few turnovers.

Oklahoma City's defense is anchored by Serge Ibaka, although he is a great help defender and shot blocker, he has terrible habits that allow opponents easy points. The problem with Ibaka as Zach Lowe pointed out in his Grantland piece, is that Air Congo tends to leave his man early in order to help, allowing his man to slip for an easy lay up.

The Thunder tried a ball handler trap a few times in this game, but it needs work. And for general defense, they aren't looking too good. They really like to clog the paint, which really hurts them against a Spurs offense surrounded with capable shooters.

Rookie Watch:

Sadly, Scott Brooks decided not to play either of his rookies, so we have yet to see what Perry Jones III and Jeremy Lamb are capable of.

The Moments:
  • Kendrick Perkins returning to his Boston Celtic roots with the weird tip off tricks, snapping the basketball to Russell Westbrook to begin the game.
  • I don't know if it is just me, or is Kevin Durant starting to bald, has a lighter patch of hair in the exact place where Ginobili has his famous bald spot.
  • In the best Inside Trax segment of the game, you get to see Scott Brooks telling Kendrick Perkins that he made a mistake and you never see Kendrick Perkins admit he is wrong, never, just look at his face, just displays pure displeasure at everything.

  • Matt Bonner are wearing New Balances again, despite switching to Adidas controversy.
  • Gregg Poppovich straight up ripped David Aldridge's spine right out of his body, which is completely normal and happens to anyone that dares to interview him during the game.
  • Nick Collison should get an award for best hair, because it looks well kept and slick through out the entire game.
  • Kawhi Leonard is slowly becoming the ultimate Spurs player, showing absolutely zero emotions. Tim Duncan has taught the young fella well.
Highlight of the Night: Tim Duncan taking us back to 2002 and just smashes the basketball in Ibaka's face.

The entire Clippers team dressed as Men in Black for Halloween.

This is the laziest Halloween costume idea ever, these are the ones people come up with when they want free candy, but don't really want to wear a real costume. I know this for a fact, because I tried it myself when I was 15, except I used a broken end of a hockey stick with electric tape as that thing they use to erase people's memory, the neuralyzer thing. It is unacceptable for NBA players who are suppose to wear suits to basketball games and later use them as "costumes."

Pretty sure Snoop Lion is a Lakers fan, maybe he saw the Portland game and realized this 4 all-star on the team is not really working out.

I am guessing, since Matt Barnes was suspended, he didn't get the memo and decided to go with the super original Joker, because no one has done it yet.

Tim Duncan paid Brent Barry a $100 bucks to kiss David Stern.

If Brent Barry isn't already one of your favorite players, he will be after you hear this amazing story. But before I start, how can you not love Brent Barry, he was the last white guy to ever win the dunk contest, and did all of  his dunks with his warm up jacket on. On top of that, he once crip walked on national television during the 3 point shooting competition, no one will ever be as a cool as him.

Yes, I know and you are welcome. Fact, Gary Payton dared him to do it for a $1000 bucks, totally worth it.

Okay, on to the story. Brent seems to really love doing weird dares for money, because in a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Bones revealed a hilarious event during the 2005 San Antonio Spurs's ring ceremony.
As I basked in that satisfaction I stood next to Tim Duncan. I said something like "Well that was fun last year, we should try to do this again!" He giggled his goofy giggle. And then I asked him how much he would give me if I kissed David Stern upon getting my ring.
He offered a sum, I considered it and waited for my name to be called. As I approached the Commish I felt like I couldn't let my captain down. So after a quick ‘Congratulations Brent’ from David I hugged him and planted one right on his cheek. To this day, I swear he and grandma have the same skin.
Classic Bones, the funnier thing was that Tim Duncan is actually a way more interesting dude than I would have ever thought. There is even more to this tale, history shows that Spurs would win another title in 2007, and this time, David Stern had a few words for Brent.
Needless to say, in 2007 when I was a part of a second championship with the Spurs, things were not as spontaneous. I saw David in the locker room prior to the game as he usually makes it standard practice to visit the teams prior to the ceremony as he did in 2005. He stole a moment with me and told me there'll be no more kisses tonight.
The perfect ending.

How to flaunt your unibrow with Kobe Bryant and Anthony Davis.

Number 1: Never hide the uni-brow.

Number 2: Always give a close up of the uni-brow.

Jalen Rose stole Patrick Ewing's TV.

I don't know how much trouble Jalen Rose is going to get into with his NBA buddies in his revealing podcasts, but these stories are great. He has already admitted to purposely trying to injure Kobe and now confesses to stealing, what else have he done. I am glad we finally got the Bat situation figured out, with all the crimes Jalen pulled , he will need that left hand swing to protect himself.

Halloween Basketball Round Up [10/31/12].

 Stats run down:

Remember when people doubted James Harden's ability to step into the spotlight? Well, He didn't do too bad in his new jersey, just adding himself into a piece of NBA History with 37 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 blocked shot. Which have only been accomplished by four players, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Dwyane Wade and himself in the past 25 seasons, no biggie.

Board Monster: Zach Randolph wiped the glass with 16 boards in a loss to the LA Clippers

Rookie Watch: Damian Lillard killed the Lakers with 23 points and 11 dimes, joining Oscar Robertson and Isiah Thomas as only players in NBA history with at least 20 points and 10 assists in NBA debut.

OverPAID: As a Canadian, I want the Raptors to do well, but sorry, Landry Fields. If you get a 3 year, 20 million deal, you have to do better than shooting 0 for 6, with 0 points and only 2 rebounds.

Butter fingers: DeAndre Jordan just dropping the ball, with 9 turnovers in a Clippers win.

Time Machine User: At age 36, the Big Fundamental still got it. Tim Duncan led the Spurs to victory with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Fans of the night: Very unlikely combo, but it's Halloween, who cares.

Highlight of the night: Aminu and his complicated first name, showing us that one hand is always better than two.

Game Winner: Stupid George Hill got off a floater with 2 seconds left in the game, spoiling Jonas Valaciunas's debut.

Conan throws an alley-oop to Blake Griffin in Video Game form.

That now makes the greatest red head basketball duo since ever. Also probably the first and last red head to red head alley-oop. The reason why Conan was traded because there is a NBA rule where you are only allowed to have one red head per team in order maintain competitive balance. When Scalabrine left, it only makes sense for the Celtics to sign Conan to become their new man and personality wise he would be a perfect fit. He should however, consider changing his number, 20 is not very hot right now in Boston.

Bonus clip of faces that Blake Griffin makes when he is dunking:

Get to know Brooklyn Net's owner, Mikhail Prokhorov.

From GQ
On the surface, Mikhail Prokhorov is a Russian billionaire that happens to own a basketball team and has connections to the gangsters in his home-country, no biggie. Just by that short bio, many would be scared out of their mind to even approach him in the wrong way, but to my surprise he is actually pretty cool, at least from this recent interview with the New York Post.

The following are excerpts from the original article:
Even on vacation, it’s very intense. I do sports of different kinds for up to eight hours a day. My posse usually needs another vacation after a vacation with me.
That's tough, but I am up for it, take me to one of your French $30 million vacation that you have reportedly taken your posse to.
I’m much more like my mother. She was cool as a cucumber, as you say in English. In Russian, we say calm as a boa constrictor!
Way to put a new twist to the in Soviet Russia jokes.
I have said that if the Nets don’t win the NBA championship within five years, I will punish myself by getting married. We are in year three. So no one is more interested in winning a championship than yours truly.
Poor you, having to date and marry models.
Q: Which actor would you want to play you in the movie about your life and why?
A: Chris Rock or Danny DeVito. For obvious physical resemblance.
Oh man, this billionaire got jokes.
Q: People you haven’t met and would like to meet?
A: This person called Honey Boo Boo is at the top of my list at the moment.
Of his hit list! As bad as honey boo boo is, she is still just a little girl, stop your gangster bros before this gets out of hand.
Benjamin Franklin because I feel I know him already. During the wild 90’s, when there was no real banking system, Russia had more $100 bills in circulation than any country in the world!
The most billionaire thing to be said by a billionaire.
Q: Favorite sports movie?
A: All the “Rocky” movies, except the one where he beats up on the Russian, of course.
This man exuberates Russian pride like no other.

There we have it, the most interesting NBA Owner in the world.

The Indiana Pacers dunk contest.

I know you expected more, I am disappointed too, but that Paul George's effortless 360-through the legs dunk is ridiculous. Last time I saw it done was in the NBA Street Vol.2 (still the best basketball video game to day) using Street Legend Stretch's signature move.

Oh, and Gerald Green, you can not just do a self alley-oop wind mill after doing a similar dunk in game. After that photo of your chin above the rim, you have the responsibility to do like a 720-windmill-honey dip dunk while blowing out a candle on a cup cake.

Spurs wins the NBA Halloween Costume Contest.

Who would have thought that a team that Popovich coaches and led my Tim Duncan would win a costume contest. No one would have ever thought the Spurs would even dress up for Halloween, but here are the pictures proving me wrong.

Two kickasses? Is it that really necessary to have two heroes that have zero super powers and mediocre combat skills?
Of course, Tim Duncan is the punisher, how Tim Duncan of him to recycle his costume ideas. We already saw him earlier this year with a punisher knee brace, I wonder if he is wearing it.

Zorro is Spanish, Ginobili speaks Spanish, so therefore it is a perfect fit. What would be better is a Bat exterminator costume, because we all saw Manu smacking the living crap out of that unlucky bat at the AT&T Center.
Guess someone didn't get the memo, it is the number one rule at any Halloween costume party, never show up in the same costume. If anything, Stephen Jackson is the best joker, I mean who else has a similar personality as the Joker than Stak5? Tiago, you should have stuck with the Usain Bolt costume you planned.

Happy Halloween, I have saved the scariest picture for last.

Hope you can sleep well tonight!
