The Boston Celtics Gave Themselves Dog Nicknames.

A few members of the Boston Celtics decided to give themselves new nicknames.

From Celtics Talk:
After Kevin Garnett dubbed the back court duo of Avery Bradley and Courtney Lee "The Pit Bulls," the two guards have come up with nicknames of their own.

This week Bradley and Lee were discussing the reference and decided to call the rest of the Boston Celtics "The German Shepherds."
Lee expanded on the nickname and branched out for other players. He referred to Garnett as a rottweiler and Brandon Bass and Jeff Green as black labs.
Any weak links?

"No poodles," said Lee.
It must be ruff, for the Celtics right now, losing Rondo and Sullinger definitely shepherds (hurt) the team that is hounding for a playoff spot. Stay PAWSitive, Celtics fans.

I am not sorry for the dog puns.

Aaron Gray and Glen Davis ate each other's faces.

You see what happens when you don't get Glen Davis, his peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I told you to feed Big Baby when he asks for it. Now poor Aaron Gray has to pay for your mistake, dude is probably mentally scarred for life. No amount of therapy can fix this.

Andrew Bynum's $60,000 treadmill keeps breaking down.

Via: CSN Philly
After being out for the entire summer and the last 3 months of the season, Andrew Bynum is finally on track to return by the All Star Break. To speed things up, the Philadelphia 76ers bought their $16 million dollar investment, a $60,000 dollar treadmill that can reduce the stress on his knees, while improving his movement.

From Bob Cooney of Philly.com:
... the organization (76ers) invested in a state-of-the-art anti-gravity treadmill that will alleviate up to 80 percent of the person’s body weight. The estimated cost of that piece of equipment has been guessed to be close to $60,000. Now as Bynum is working towards a return that he predicts could come around the All-Star break (mid-February), the new machine is breaking down.
“It’s going pretty good. I shot around at shootaround (Monday morning) with the guys so I’m getting a bit better on the court. If the treadmill would stop breaking down I would be able to do a little bit more, but I’m going well. It’s like every 3 days or so it needs service, so I don’t know. I’ve been involved a little bit in practice just shooting around with the guys and stuff like that. My knees feel good and I’m not feeling any pain so this is all good and I just want to keep it going.”
As great as an anti-gravity treadmill sounds, maybe the stress of carrying Bynum is a lot heavier than it looks. Andrew Bynum is listed at 285 pounds, but if you add the weight he has probably gained over the summer and another 20 pounds from his hair (which by the way is incredibly versatile), the machine might need some help. He needs to come back soon, because the 76ers are not doing too well. They are sitting a 9th spot in the East with a 17-24 record and is second last in the Atlantic Division.

Joakim Noah and Kevin Garnett had a Screaming Contest on the Court.

For the record, Joakim Noah and Kevin Garnett hates each other. You would think two guys that possess a similar style of play, would get quite well along with each other. But they don't, which makes any Bulls vs. Celtics games, no matter how low scoring, very interesting.

First, we have Joakim Noah's celebration cry. (Via: SB Nation)

Then we have your Nightmare. (Via: @cjzero)
What do you think? Personally, Kevin Garnett scares the living crap out of me. He looks like an alien hatching from his egg and thanks to that high definition ball pounding sweat out of his head, I don't think I am sleeping tonight.

Indiana Pacers "Bountygate," players were rewarded for keeping opponents under a certain score.

In latest NBA scandal, the Indiana Pacer confessed to putting a bounty in a game on Tuesday. Well, sort of. In the game where the Pacers defeated the Charlotte Bobcats in 103-76 blowout, Roy Hibbert offered a sum of money to his teammates to make things interesting, which in Pacers term, more boring, because they are the best team in league in turning games into an ugly mess.

From Curt Cavin of IndyStar:
Roy Hibbert realized during a late time out Tuesday night that the struggling Charlotte Bobcats might not score 80 points.
His mouthed opened and out came a challenge.
Keep the Bobcats in the 70s, Hibbert instructed the five reserve players checked in the game. It's worth $100 per man.
Bench players can always use the extra money, and it's really no harm to the highest paid Pacer. As we all know Roy is flushed with cash.

Had to throw in the Parks and Rec reference. (Video has NSFW language)

Metta World Peace learns how to control his temper from kids.

The first kid is not wrong, in a basic context, basketball in the eyes of children is essentially recess. You can't really argue with that. I mean just look at this freakin' kid, that smug face knows that he's right.

Maybe try not to kill your opponents "inadvertently." Stop swinging your arms wildly after plays and focus on basketball. Don't ever listen to Allison.

Ed Davis used a hotel towel to hold up his pants.

@iamamirjohnson
Wondering why a NBA player succumbs to using a towel as a device to hold his pants up? According to Amir Johnson, this is why happened:

If you think about it, this is kind of ingenious. Forgetting your belt is a common mistake, but using a towel (which I hope he paid for) as a belt would have not been the first thing on my mind. It must have taken him forever to get it around the belt loops. I would probably just take my crew socks and make them work somehow. Also, the belts on hotel robes seems like a better choice.

Joakim Noah's Tornado Shot Got Stuck.

Joakim Noah doesn't have the greatest shooting form in the league, but it works well enough to make him a somewhat respectable mid range shooter. I am totally joking, teams don't care if he shoots, it is one of those shots you allow for the benefit of your defense. And on Saturday, the Atlanta Hawks' decision to sag off Noah was justified. (NSFW language)

This is why you do not shoot a basketball with side spin, I don't even know how you can possibly pull it off without freakishly large hands. Everyone else has a backspin on their shot for a reason.

Coach Doug Collins bought Big Macs for Sixers Fans.

Last Night, the Phialdelphia 76ers defeated the Atlanta Hawks 99-80, which meant that the Sixers were short one point to give out free Big Mac vouchers to the fans in attendance. Normally you would guess that the team didn't manage to score in time, but this was not the case.

The Sixers did have a shot to please their fans, with 23 seconds left in the game clock, one more basket in a blow out shouldn't be too difficult. But Coach Doug Collins stepped in and told his team to hold the ball as a display of sportsmanship. Obviously, the fans at the Wells Fargo Center weren't too happy about it. They booed like true Philly fans and it made Doug felt so bad, he took out his own money to buy them all a Big Mac. Just so you know, there were about 18,000 people in attendance, each Big Mac costs $4.33, which totals to approximately $80,000 dollars. Maybe letting Evan Turner score wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Things Kobe Bryant might have said to Andrew Bynum at the Sixers game.

Via: @JonesOnTheNBA
The following exclusive transcription of the original conversation is likely fictional or totally real.

Kobe Bryant: "I am only doing this because the camera is on us and not because I actually care for you."

Andrew Bynum: "Nice to see you too, Jerk face.

Kobe Bryant: "Since we have to look like we are having a legitimate conversation, how is your knee?"

Andrew Bynum: "I can't run yet."

Kobe Bryant: "So I was right about calling you being nothing after the Dwight Howard trade."

Andrew Bynum: "Look asshole, you traded no.1 for no.2. Dwight is not winning you any games and my team has a better record than yours even though I am probably never going to play for them."

Kobe Bryant: "More like no.1 worst injury for no.2 worst injury.

Andrew Bynum: "You are never short of those trademarked smart ass answers are you?"

Pau Gasol: "Chill out, guys"

Kobe Bryant: "Shut up, Pau. You don't have a place in this conversation."

Pau Gasol: *whimpers* "I hate you!"

Kobe Bryant: "Why did you say?" *Kobe Death Stares*

Andrew Bynum: "Man, screw this. The camera got enough footage. I am leaving."

Kobe Bryant: "One more thing, what the hell are you doing with that hair? You a trend setter now?"

Andrew Bynum: "YOLO" *Walks away*

Kobe Bryant is Ultimate NBA Villain.

You shall obey me, young one.
Kobe Bryant, professional basketball player and occasional saboteur.
…source says the Black Mamba talked relentless smack during the Olympics that the Thunder stars weren’t going back to the Finals after the Lakers acquired Steve Nash and then added Dwight Howard right before the U.S. played Spain for the gold medal. Kobe also made a point of guarding Westbrook during practices and pumping him up, the theory being that he wanted to incite Russ to bump heads with KD over who the team’s best player is. (If you think that’s too conspiratorial to be real, you don’t know Kobe.) KD, in particular, got tired of hearing him. For what it’s worth: KD and Westbrook’s combined 69 points is the highest single-game total they’ve posted this season.
Can someone call Shaq to confirm please?
